District Mandated Random Metal Detector and Locker Searches
will be conducted throughout the year. The purpose of a metal detection and locker search program within District schools is to deter the bringing of weapons on to school grounds, thereby reducing the potential for violent incidents. The search locations and students are selected randomly in accordance with LAUSD policy.
MEND Food Drive is extended to December 17, 2009.
Students collect canned food contributions for those in need.
Geo Bee
Monday, November 23, 2009, is the preliminary round to our first ever Geo Bee test. It is an academic competition for grades 4-8, and every student here at Frost will be participating during their history class.
Native American Heritage Essay Contest
This month all Frost students are invited to participate in an essay contest to celebrate Native American Heritage Month.
Student Expectations In Physical Education Classes
On Monday November 9th our Physical Education Department addressed all students concerning expected behaviors in the P.E. area.

The Great American Smokeout Will Take Place on November 19th
The Great American Smokeout is Thursday, November 19, 2009. Every year, on the third Thursday of November, smokers across the nation take part in the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout® by smoking less or quitting for the day. The event challenges people to stop using tobacco and helps make people aware of the many tools they can use to quit for good.
PTSA Signature STYLE Fall Fundraiser
The PTSA Fall Fundraiser is underway. Support Frost by participating in this fundraising activity. Money and Order Forms are due on Tuesday, November 3rd.

Applications for participation in the Free or Reduced Meal Program are available in the Grade Level Offices and in the Cafeteria Manager's Office.
Red Ribbon Week
During National Red Ribbon Week, October 17-25, 2009, millions of young people and adults will support healthy lifestyles by wearing or displaying a red ribbon. This nationwide celebration has become a major force for raising public awareness and mobilizing communities to combat underage drinking and illegal drug use among youth.
Grief and Loss Group
The Robert Frost Grief and Loss Group begins this week; meets once a week for 6 weeks in an effort to help students confront and cope with the effects of losing a loved one.
SSC/CEAC/ELAC Elections on October 21st at 2:15 pm
All parents are encouraged to participate.
The elections will be held in the library from 2:15- 3:15pm.

Parents: Please Discuss Safety with Students Going to and From School
This is an important reminder about talking to your children on the importance of using safe practices going to and from school.
PSAT/NMSQT
On October 14, 2009, 8th grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT. Registration begins Friday, October 2,2009. The PSAT will help prepare your child for the SAT I and the SAT II. Students can pick up a registration form in the 8th grade office. The last day of registration will be on October 9, 2009.

Preventing the Spread of Any Type of Flu
It’s flu season. As you may have read or heard in the news media, there are a growing number of cases of the seasonal influenza. This is accompanied by continuing cases of the pandemic H1N1 (swine) flu in our communities.
Back to School Night was held on Sept. 24th.
Back to School Night was held on Thursday, September 24th. The purpose of Back to School Night is for teachers to communicate with parents and students the expectations that we have of our students at Robert Frost Middle School. If you were unable to attend you can visit each teacher's website for more information or email them with any questions.
Class Changes and Requests
Due to our enrollment growing we have added several classes. The Counseling Office is working on balancing classes and this will affect many students. Once the we have selected the students who will be moving, we will begin to make changes from the requests that were submitted. If you have left a message with our counselors they will get back to you later this week. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Julia Wilinski Selected as Winner in Scholastic Book Club's "What's So Funny? Poetry Contest!"
Mrs. Fernandez's magnet school class participated in the Scholastic Book Club's "What's So Funny? Poetry Contest!" and Julia Wilinski was selected as one of the top 25 students from thousands of entries from all over the country.
